A long and winding road

The team planning to plant a church among the Nahuatl people of Mexico made an adventurous trip into the village where they will minister.

"My first trip to the tribe did not disappoint. It had all the elements a true adventure requires. For the first part of the trip we headed down to the coast on the windiest roads I have ever experienced," wrote missionary Katie Moore.

Dan and Sarah Alkire and Rachel Chapman also made the trip into the Nahuatl village. At 8,000 feet they reached some impassible clay-filled spots in the road and after slipping back down a few times the group headed two hours back down the trail to the nearest town, where they stayed a few days while the roads dried out.

"Soon we were at it again," wrote Katie, "bumping and jarring our way up the mountain trail. With more slipping and sliding than I normally like to do on roads with no guard rails, we chugged our way up."

Seven hours later they had traveled 60 miles and finally as they pulled around a curve in the road they caught sight of the village. Houses are being built there so that the team can move in and begin preparations to learn the culture and language to present the Gospel message to the Nahuatls.

Sarah, Katie, Rachel and Tasha Davis, who also made the trip, met with some of the village ladies and began forming relationships. That evening the team spent several hours discussing the cultural events they had observed.

"What adventures in figuring out the culture lie ahead of us," Katie wrote.

Pray for the team as they prepare to move into the Nahuatl village. Pray also that God will prepare Nahuatl hearts to listen to and accept the Gospel truth.
