A welcome open door

Earlier this month, Mike Goddard's cell phone rang and presented him and his father, Dean, with a great opportunity.

"We need you and your dad to come teach us what God says about prophecy, dreams, revelations and such things," an Ache pastor in Paraguay requested.

"I'll talk to my dad and we'll see what we can do," Mike replied.

A couple of weeks later Mike and Dean, along with another pastor friend, Ramon, made the six-hour trip.

"Pastor Ramon was excited to take part in this trip to visit with the Ache church and to be a part of their lives," wrote Mike.

When the three men arrived at the Ache village they were swarmed by children who grabbed their hands and wouldn't let go. For a while the children went everywhere the men went.

Mike, Dean and Ramon were able to meet with the Ache pastors for a couple of hours, and later that day they spent time with them informally and had opportunities to visit in their homes and talk about Bible truths.

Mike talked at length with one man, Santiago, about his desire to be a missionary sent out by the local Ache church.

At an evening church meeting, the men shared a word of encouragement. It had been 20 years since Mike had lived among the Ache, but in his rusty recollection of the language he was able to share God's Word with them.

The people loved it. "It was something they could all relate to: God's Word is like delicious honey. It's really sweet," Mike wrote.

"Is there honey dripping from the trees around here?" Mike asked the group. The Aches smiled and shook their heads as if saying, "Of course not; only in our wildest dreams."

"What do you have to go through to get honey?" Mike then asked. Mike didn't know but he got a group response.

"All of them started talking at once, giving their idea as to how a good honey hunter finds a tree with bees at the right season."

"See," Mike said, "you know how to find honey and you know it takes a lot of very hard work. But the effort you went through to get the honey was worth it. When the hole in the tree is big enough to reach your hand down in there and pull out the honey comb, just dripping with sweetness, you take it and put it in your mouth and chew the comb.

"It's so good! That is exactly what God's Word is like. It takes lots of work to read and study, and then make application to our lives, but it's wonderful when it rings true in our lives."

"My challenge tonight is that you search after God and His Word like you hunt for honey and then benefit from the pleasure it brings to know Him."

The Ache church in this village has faced unfathomable challenges recently and the leaders continue to seek wisdom from God's Word and from people they trust will handle the Word correctly.

Please pray for the Ache church to truly grasp and follow God's Word.
