Bilingual teacher plays important role

This week Dikung a Bible teacher in the Philippines asked missionaries Gene and Carol Trudeau to pray for him.

Dikung is bilingual, speaking both Cebuano and Manobo. He listened to evangelistic Bible lessons in the Manobo language a few years ago and trusted Christ as his Savior.

He translated the Manobo lessons into Cebuano and began teaching them to Cebuano speakers. Several Cebuanos trusted Christ and he is now shepherding and mentoring that group. He then started teaching evangelistic Bible lessons to yet another group of Cebuanos.

When listening to the lesson about God providing clothing for Adam and Eve, one of the men realized that he could do nothing to save himself. So he went around to his neighbors and relatives and urged them to start listening to the teaching.

The result is that Dikung is now teaching two new groups every night. Dikung works daily in his coconut grove to support his family, translates the Manobo lessons into Cebuano and teaches the believers as well as those seeking to know Christ.

"We're so thankful for Dikung and his hard work translating our teaching material into Cebuano," Gene Trudeau wrote. "We're thankful for him not only because Cebuanos are being saved, but also because we see the Manobo church in that area moving from the Manobo language to the Cebuano within a generation or two. Because of Dikung their descendants will still have teaching material to carry them on when they no longer speak the language of their ancestors."

Please pray for strength and wisdom for Dikung as he teaches and translates. Pray also that many Cebuanos will hear the Gospel message and trust Christ.
