Bitten by a dog?

It was obvious to missionaries Steve and Ros Baird that Mano needed more than a dressing for his wound.

The young Tala Andig man said he had been bitten by a dog nine months ago, but the wound had not properly healed.

The Bairds already had scheduled a trip to take several patients to the hospital this week and Mano joined the list of passengers.

When Mano saw the doctor at the hospital he was hesitant to give information about his wound.

"Weren't you bitten by a dog?" Ros prompted him.

Mano lowered his head, obviously embarrassed to answer, and then said, "They told me I was bitten by a busaw."

It is common to attribute sickness to evil spirits, and busaws are malevolent spirits who can appear in the form of a dog. They are greatly feared because they are said to eat people alive.

After examining Mano, the doctor concluded that he has a bone disease -- osteomyelitis. Mano is now receiving treatment and will need surgery.

Please pray that Mano will receive good care and that his leg will heal.

But most of all, pray for Mano's spiritual healing. He recently started listening to evangelistic Bible lessons along with other Tala Andigs in the Philippines.
