Changes for efficiency

Kris Rickert and the three other members of the computer services team at Faith Academy in the Philippines have spent the last two months reworking the school’s network.

“Several key switches that run the network have been replaced,” wrote Kris and his wife, Kendra. “Not only are these new switches faster, and more reliable, but they are also much more efficient. Electricity is so expensive here that we calculate they will pay for themselves in electricity savings in 2½ years.”

Four-year-old computers have been replaced with 60 new ones that are also more efficient. “They will save the school about 50 percent in power consumption over the old stations,” wrote Kris and Kendra.

Several other changes were made for efficiency and reliability as well, including one that might raise a few eyebrows. The team installed nearly two miles of new network cables, “all in conduit to keep the rats from chewing the cables,” the couple wrote.

Kris is serving as director of technology at Faith Academy as an NTM associate missionary.
