Dom New Testament Dedicated

By Jim and Judy Burdett

What a joy and privilege it is to share about our recent Dom New Testament dedication! It has been a very long time coming and worth waiting for. Our Dom Christian brothers and sisters put a lot of time, effort and finances into making it a community-wide event in order to emphasize that this New Testament is for everyone, not just our little local church family.

Hundreds came from all over the Dom and from churches in other related language groups within our province. Some of our friends and supporters flew in from America, Canada and England to attend and more than a few of our fellow NTM missionary colleagues drove here, too. It was a grand reunion full of fun and fellowship.

After many speeches and testimonies copies of the Dom New Testament were made available at a nominal, affordable price, and they were gone in less than twenty minutes! One Dom man bought three! Praise the Lord and may the spreading of His Word bring light and life to all the dark corners of this land.

DomAfterwards we all enjoyed a Papua New Guinea-style buffet together. Missionaries, Dom people and other Papua New Guinea brothers and sisters in Christ were rejoicing as one in the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ: a little taste of what Heaven will hold for us. Praise the Lord the rain held off for all the trips to and from nearby Goroka to pick up and return our guests.

As we descend the mountain top and come back to the daily grind we have much in front of us for the rest of this year. September will be busy with more weekly Bible studies, Sunday teaching series and encouraging the believers to read their Dom New Testaments.

Our own coworkers, Gerolf and Mailis Wuest and their children, continue to be such a blessing to us. Please pray for Gerolf as he endeavors to learn the Dom language and culture which is no easy task.

Jim and Judy Burdett have ministered to the Dom people of Papua New Guinea since 1982 in literacy, Bible translation and discipleship.
