New believers impatient

Since placing their faith in Christ last week, an Akolet couple is waiting for others to join them.

“Did anyone else put it all together? Did they understand and talk to you guys?” Lonsi has asked missionary Adam Martin more than once.

Last week, Julie Martin told Lonsi, after he asked her the same thing, “"Not yet. A lot of people are close, but you guys had the advantage in having helped me translate for so long already.”

Lonsi shook his head as he and his wife responded, "Our eyes were shut. We couldn't see! But now we do, and it's just so clear and so easy.”

The light dawned for the husband and wife while they were helping the Martins translate Scripture to be used in the Bible lessons.

“Lonsi and Samam are like different people,” Julie  wrote. “It's so exciting to see what's happened to them already, and we know the changes are just going to continue.”

The Martins’ co-workers, Ryan and Sarah Warner, have also seen a new Lonsi and Samam.

“It has been amazing to watch the change in them,” Sarah wrote. “Lonsi was our island worrier, and you never had to wonder what Samam was thinking. She was sure to tell you and it wasn’t always nice. But they are night-and-day different now.

“The day after they got saved, Lonsi came up to get something from Ryan and he had a big smile and was joking with Ryan. And Samam sat down and shared her testimony with me. She did it in a combination of pidgin and Akolet so that I could understand it. … God has rescued these people from the fear that has kept them in slavery their whole lives.”
