New challenges

The second year of ministry for teacher Tiffany Manning is a lot different from her first year in Papua New Guinea.

Last year she taught at Malango School for the children of missionaries. This year, however, the school was closed because of a shortage of teachers, and parents are assisting Tiffany and other teachers in a home-schooling cooperative for missionaries’ children.

School started a month ago, and while “the first week was fairly rough,” Tiffany wrote, things settled down quickly. But her schedule and responsibilities are still very challenging.

“I’m working with one first grader every morning for an hour with reading and writing, then it’s math for three students in grades 3, 4, and 5, then language arts for six kids in grades 3-6. That’s my daily schedule, and three times a week in the afternoons I have the same six students for science and social studies for grades 3-6.”

Balance for all the students is one of Tiffany’s concerns, “trying not to have my third grader overwhelmed, but yet have the sixth graders challenged.”

She waited a bit to start teaching extracurricular subjects, and has been able to fit in ballet. She's still like to teach piano as well.

Pray that Tiffany is able to find balance in her schedule and is a blessing to the students and their missionary parents.

Find out how you can help expand the reach of the Gospel by teaching the children of missionaries.
