Praying for a fish to stab

Augusto, a Yanomami believer in Brazil, is known as the best piraracu fisherman in the area.

Recently he visited missionary Mike Hartman with the hopes of borrowing a harpoon to spear a piraracu to feed his family. Mike gladly lent him the harpoon and then said, "I know God can give you a fish. If He wants you to have a fish, He will give you one."

The piraracu can be eight feet long and weigh as much as two men. So catching one means a Yanomami family will eat quite well for some time. Piraracus are also air breathers and normally come up for air every fifteen minutes but can stay underwater longer if necessary.

That day Augusto sat in his boat for hours waiting for a piraracu to come up for air so that he could use his borrowed harpoon. But there was no sign of a fish.

Then he remembered to pray. He prayed, "God, You are the Great One, there is no one like You. If You want to, You can give us a fish. If you don't, we will all go home hungry. So could You give us a fish so we can feed our families?"

Just then a huge piraracu came to the surface for a breath of air and he was able to harpoon it.That night he told Mike, "God brought it right to the boat after I prayed." Augusto was so happy that God had heard his prayer.

There was plenty of fish for everyone and Augusto kept telling them how thankful he was that God had answered his prayer.

Pray that Augusto and the other Yanomamis, who gather all of their food from the jungle, will come to depend on God to supply their needs. Pray also for Mike as he shepherds the believers and helps them to grow in the Lord.
