Exodus quite a journey

Within the next week missionary Dan Burke plans to complete a revision of Exodus in the Chimane language. As of last week only two chapters remained to be revised.

On March 5 Dan is scheduled to fly out and meet with field leaders to discuss future plans regarding ministry in Colombia. While there he will leave a copy of Exodus to be reviewed. Dan hopes their will be time to review it before he attends a monthly Bible course on March 24.

After the course he wants to sit down with Rosauro, and possibly other Chimanes, and do a complete reading of Exodus to make any necessary corrections.

The next step will be for Dan’s wife, Judy, to do a back-to-English translation that will be reviewed by another missionary who is skilled in Bible translation. That missionary might make some suggested changes before a final comprehension check is done with the a group of Chimanes.

“We would appreciate prayers for the whole process of translation,” Judy wrote. “We want to have a clear, correct translation that will be a blessing to the Chimane people.”

Since the first of the year Judy’s priority was getting Exodus on the computer. She is now working her way through a Bible story book. She has a very rough draft done on 17 of 25 stories with much work yet to do.

In the evenings, when Dan’s brain is tired of working on translation he is photocopying Bible study books for the Chimanes. The books were written by the Burke’s former co-worker Wayne Gill, who is now with the Lord. Dan made 50 copies of two books, one of Timothy and Titus and one of How to Function as Believers and as Part of the Church. He is now printing one hundred copies of a book of Proverbs.

Please pray that all of these materials will help the Chimane believers grow in their relationship with the Lord and the church.
