Lives of Lavongai believers changing
Lavongai believers in Papua New Guinea are growing in the Lord and seeking to apply God's Word to their lives.
On Sunday afternoons, believers meet at the home of missionaries Wade and Deanne Ebersole for a time of singing, prayer and Bible study. Wade is teaching about the believer's position in Christ, what His death, burial and resurrection accomplished and, how to apply those principles to their daily walk.
To assist in grounding the believers, Deanne is translating The Green Letters by Miles Stanford into the Lavongai language. Delsi, a Lavongai woman who is helping Deanne edit the book, is amazed at what she is reading on principles of spiritual growth. As she edits phrases like "growth and maturity takes time" and "God's grace is unconditional," she is encouraged in her faith.
Recently the Lavongais held a large cultural event called a "custom work" where speeches were made, food was prepared and supposedly inter-clan agreements were made and arguments settled. But it is man's attempt to solve the sin problem and the believers recognized that without God, the attempt is futile.
"David [a believer who is also a village leader] was asked to be involved as he has been well-known for doing custom work in the past," Wade wrote. "But he refused, saying, 'If I tried to say those things now, my mouth would trip and stumble.' He also told them, 'I don't want to be a big man anymore. I just want to be a little boy, sitting quietly learning from God.'"
Pray that the Lavongai believers will continue to apply God's Word to their lives. Pray too that God will encourage Wade and Deanne as they minister to the Lavongais.
