Past the roadblocks

The Simbas of Bolivia saw God work through adverse circumstances to allow 350 people attend a Bible conference.

They wanted to meet together for a time of Bible teaching and sharing ideas for outreach and church growth, but political and economic turmoil threatened to ruin everything.

Many roads were shut down by road blocks, but some of the road blocks were lifted the very day believers in one area began their journey to the meetings. Bolivian believers were also able to reach the meeting place to help host the event as they had promised.

Julio, a Simba believer who helped missionaries Bill and Kathleen Mann tape evangelistic Bible lessons, made three attempts to get through the road blocks. Finally he walked through the woods at night, bypassing a group of armed and angry men, to reach the conference. God used him to teach Bible lessons to the Simbas in their own language.

The teaching at the conference confronted cultural barriers to the Gospel that Simbas face. One of the barriers is that Simba people believe everyone has a spirit owner that they must appease. Julio taught that the God of the Bible is the Maker of everything and that He alone is the owner and true God. Ten Simbas trusted Christ as a result of Julio's teaching.

Many Simba people are hungry for the Gospel message. As the conference ended Simba teachers Arturo, Felix, and Julio were flooded with invitations to come and teach at various villages.

Pray for the Simba Bible teachers as they take on the challenge of reaching other villages with the Gospel message. Pray that many will hear the evangelistic teaching and trust Christ.
