Tired missionary energized by testimony

A Yanomami believer in Brazil recently lifted up a tired, weary missionary with his testimony.

"I was tired and had driven all day through rapids, under and over huge trees that literally spanned the width of the river," wrote missionary Mike Hartman. "Honestly, I just wanted to rest quietly for a few minutes. The smoke from the fires was irritating my eyes and making it uncomfortable to breathe. But I said, ’OK, I want to hear your talk.’ And wow, was I blessed."

The young man told Mike that he had trusted in God and that his dad, Bruce, had talked so much about God that he wanted to know all about God’s Word. He said he was so glad that Mike and Brais, a Yanomami pastor, had come to teach them the Scriptures.

"I had come to this village partly out of duty and not believing there was much hope, if any, for this village," Mike wrote. "Then [the young man] said that he was the school teacher and that he wanted to teach God’s Word some day like pastor Brais. We had not even started the teaching yet and God had already been at work."

Brais began teaching and gave a strong clear message and Augusto gave a wonderful testimony of his life before and after he accepted Christ. The villagers heard a message from God’s Word and were hungry for more.

Bruce told Mike he was concerned what would happen when the missionaries left. But Brais assured Bruce that the Yanomami church leaders would continue to come back and teach God’s Word even after the missionaries left.

Pray for Mike as he travels to Yanomami villages to teach the Bible. Pray too for Brais and other Yanomami pastors as they teach God’s Word in remote villages.
