'What is it called?'

Kina’itoh. That was one of the first phrases missionary Rachel Chapman learned when she started studying the Nahuatl language. It means, "What is it called?" -- a key phrase that helps unlock the world around new language learners.

Half a year ago, the missionaries in the small Nahuatl village were praying for the ability to grasp the language and customs of the Nahuatl people.

With a few new words and phrases under their belts, the missionaries are finding their prayers answered as village relationships grow when they ask their neighbors for help in learning the Nahuatl language.

For Rachel, the use of the phrase kina’itoh has exposed her to many new vocabulary words.

"We began to learn words for things all around us," Rachel wrote. " Bench, ground, tree, leaf ... blanket, floor, house, roof ...."

Now the missionaries are learning to socialize with their new language skills. They can greet people, invite people into their home, offer them coffee and even ask if their guests liked the coffee.

Rachel and the other missionaries make a point to visit their neighbors and practice their language skills on a regular basis. Please pray that their grasp of the Nahuatl language strengthens so that eventually, they can begin to teach God’s Word to the Nahuatl people.
