‘Learning who God really is’

More than 100 Siars in Papua New Guinea are now hearing evangelistic Bible teaching and “the light is beginning to rock the Siars' world in a very real way,” wrote Lane Sanford.

“I am finally learning who God really is!" said Redi, a Siar woman.

The missionary team is teaching twice a day, four days a week and has about 130 people in both sessions.

“It is not just the numbers that we are encouraged with, but we are seeing the same folks consistently coming each day and showing great interest and a growing understanding of what they are being taught,” Lane wrote.  “Many are staying after the lesson to ask questions, discuss the issues, and read the translated portions of Scripture for that lesson.  It is a thrilling thing to see and be a part of.”

During the first four lessons, which covered the person of God and His Creation, the Siars began seeing the importance of the message and its application to them.

“Man guys, we better get ready,” said Jon, who has worked with the missionary team to translate Scripture into the Siar language. “None of us know the truth about this. None of us know the truths about God, and everything we have believed has been a lie.”

“Listen well to this teaching,” said Sali, who has helped translate the Bible lessons. “God is showing us what the truth is and we will not be deceived any longer by lies because we will finally know the truth.”

“I want you all to know that we need to evaluate ourselves. Not looking at others, but look at ourselves,” said Ogen, another translation helper. “I am just like Satan. I am full of pride like he was. This is the very thing that all of us have in our hearts.”

“I have always been confused and didn't know what the Bible meant,” said Isaac, a teenage boy. “This is the first time that I have ever understood it.”

“Please do not waiver in your prayers,” wrote Lane. “The battle for their minds and hearts is on and we have yet to see the full manifestation of Satan's efforts to draw them away. … Go boldly to the throne of Grace on behalf of the Siars and pray that God's Word would continue to challenge their minds and their hearts.”
