Akolet couple 'bubbling over'

Lonsi and Samam, an Akolet couple in Papua New Guinea, have been faithfully attending evangelistic Bible teaching even though they heard the lessons when they helped missionary Adam Martin translate them into their language.

Adam’s wife, Julie, was thinking that since the couple had heard the lessons before that they might not faithfully attend the teaching. Julie even thought that the couple might consider their work with Adam as "service for God" and feel satisfied that their good works would work in their favor for salvation.

"That has not been the case and I’m so thankful," Julie wrote. "They’ve both been bubbling over with the newness of everything they’re hearing."

While teaching about the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden and the scriptural theme that man can do nothing to save himself, Adam Martin said, "There’s no straightening or fixing that Adam would be able to do if he ate this fruit. He would be cut off from God."

The Akolets believe that any wrong they commit can be paid for or made right by giving shell money.

Last week Samam shared something with Julie that brought tears to the missionary’s eyes.

Samam told Julie, "I’ve been thinking about what Adam [Martin] said about how if Adam and Eve ate the fruit, there would be nothing they could do to make themselves right with God again. And I thought about myself. I’ve done bad things. … And now I know there’s nothing I can do. What am I going to do? I’m so afraid! Can’t you please tell me the rest of the story?"

"Praise God for His work in her life," wrote Julie. "Please pray that she and her husband would keep listening attentively and get the Answer that will forever take care of their fear."
