Back among friends

Missionaries Reuben and Lydia Schuring recently returned from home assignment to their home in a Ka’ apor village in Brazil and are readjusting to the culture there.

"It’s taken a bit to get used to having people in the house all the time," wrote Reuben, "watching us, asking questions, visiting, or just wanting things. But they know we love them, and God continues to use things to encourage us and remind us not to complain."

Reuben and Lydia are thrilled to see that the Ka’apor church has been at work in their absence. And the Ka’apors are thankful to have the Schurings back living among them.

Pipi, their grandmotherly neighbor, can’t see or hear very well but comes over for coffee every day. When she heard a rumor that they were moving to another village, she came over in tears saying she’d heard some really bad news. Lydia reassured her that the rumor was untrue and Pipi shuffled back to spread the good news.

Another friend, Sese, returned to the Lord recently and now shares what he’s reading in the New Testament each Sunday in church.

Corone, the chief of the village, and his wife, Iramy, come every morning to pray with the team. Corone reads God’s Word every day and the Schurings were able to see the change God’s Word is making in his life. He had been reluctant to let go of the beliefs of the Ka’apors but now loves to read the Scriptures and to pray for the advancement of the Gospel.

Pray for Reuben and Lydia as they settle back into village life and continue their ministry among the Ka’apors. Pray also for the Ka’apor believers to continue to grow in the Lord.
