Back in the bush
Linda Krieg is back in the bush, settled in a temporary cabin home by a wide river, in a setting Linda calls “idyllic.” Her old Siawi house is no longer suitable for her needs, so Linda has located herself instead in a Abau village with Abau believers and the missionaries, Frank and Mirjam Tertel.
Her faithful Siawi language co-workers have traveled there to visit her and work with her on the books of Exodus and Jonah, which will be included in a future waterproof edition of the Siawi Bible.
The long-anticipated Siawi Bible dedication which Linda flew to Papua New Guinea to be part of was just days ahead.
Linda had almost forgotten the fury of driving, tropical storms in the bush. But one stormy night a few weeks back, she found herself awakened at 4 a.m. by just such a storm.
“Jumping up and rushing into the main living area of the house, a wall of water met me, driven in through the screen windows on the end of the house,” Linda explains.
Her goal was to raise the shutters over the screens, but the shutters had warped with time and would not pull up. Rain pelting her face, Linda fought with the shutters while the water grew deeper on the plywood floor.
“In my desperation to get the shutters up, I forgot a key maxim for people over 65—Never rush frantically! And that was my downfall—literally,” Linda says.
She subsequently slipped on the wet floor and fell, badly twisting her recently replaced right knee.
And that knee hasn’t felt right since her fall. “I’m praying it isn’t anything serious and … will not cause any additional problems,” Linda adds.
Linda’s plans are to stay until September and she is hoping her knee will behave until then. You can be part of Linda’s ministry in Papua New Guinea by praying.
Pray for the Siawi church as they officially receive the newest printed edition of the Siawi Bible. Pray for God’s blessing on the church and for the power of His Word to ignite a greater love and devotion for Christ through having the Scripture bound into one book in their language.
And pray for Linda—for God to heal and preserve her knee and give her physical strength. Pray also that He will bless an additional project she is tackling while visiting the Abau church—which is the translation check on the Abau version of Philippians, Philemon, 2 Timothy, 1 Corinthians and Colossians.
If you could sit by that wide river and visit with Linda, her passion for the honor and glory of her Lord and her great love for Siawi believers are clearly in view.
She has faithfully invested decades of her life in a project of great eternal consequence--one that will last for eternity.
