Bone marrow transplant for missionary

Brazilian missionary Marcelo Silva, who has been battling leukemia, has returned to Brazil and will undergo a bone marrow transplant this month.

The entire process will take three or four months to complete.

A recent exam showed that Marcelo’s blood cell count is still on the low side and not multiplying as fast as doctors would like, so he continues to have blood transfusions. The exams also revealed the absence of leukemia cells.

Doctors have informed Marcelo of the risk of rejection and even death since the donor is not a relative. Another complication at this time is that Marcelo has developed a fungus in his lungs. He is taking medication for it and praying that it will clear up soon.

Please pray that his body will be ready for the bone marrow transplant and be able to endure the process.

Pray too that God will provide for the large debt that was incurred during Marcelo’s hospital stay in the USA.
