Cancer takes Mibu woman

Yoonare, a believer and beloved friend and language co-worker to missionaries among the Mibu people of Papua New Guinea, died last week.

After being flown to the hospital, doctors performed a battery of tests and diagnosed cancer. The doctors then sat down with her husband, Ketang, and explained that Yoonare would not last long.

"That's OK," he replied. "We belong to God, and when He says it's someone's time to go, it's time."

Ketang and Yoonare were involved in helping missionaries Chris and Angie Walker, and the entire Mibu missionary team, learn the Mibu culture and language from the very beginning.

"Both of them … often went out of their way to help with various projects," wrote Chris, "and were very patient and gracious with us in our learning progress. When it came time to present the Gospel, they both paid attention with rapt interest. The both fell in love with God, and later His Son, Jesus Christ."

Yoonare was sensitive to God's Spirit in her life. She was always helping people and seemed to do so because of her joy for what Jesus did for her.

Yoonare leaves Ketang, their nine children and two grandchildren behind. Ketang and the two children who traveled with her to the hospital are now being cared for by an NTM regional leader. They will stay in town until they are ready to travel back to their Mibu village.

Pray for Ketang and his family as they adjust to the loss of Yoonare. Rejoice with them and the Mibu believers as they celebrate her home going. Pray also for the Walkers as they continue to minister and shepherd the Mibu church.
