Closed hearts open
When missionary Paul Gervasi asked the Sekadau believers to help him reach out to the surrounding villages he got a surprising answer.
"One of the most gifted and stable men quickly answered that since they had all decided to make their gardens far from the village this year," wrote Paul, "no one would be available to help us. … After getting this response from the believers here, our team talked it over and decided that we would do as much as we could to reach the folks in the surrounding villages with the Gospel."
Paul, his wife Bella, and their daughter Cori, along with Naomi Christenson and Limbar and Suwina joined together in prayer that God would burden the hearts of some of the men to be involved in the outreach.
Limbar and Suwina are from the Gerai tribe where Paul and Bella ministered for many years. The couple felt led to help Paul and Bella reach the Sekadau people.
"It's been neat to work with Limbar and Suwina," wrote Naomi Christenson, "they bring unique cultural insight from an insider's viewpoint."
Last week Paul talked with some of the Sekadau men and asked for help in choosing a village and approaching the people there on behalf of the missionaries. One of the men named a nearby village and said he would talk to some of the folks there and arrange a meeting to discuss teaching in their village.
"This was a real answer to prayer," wrote Paul. "We don't know what the future holds, but we are continuing to pray, both for the folks who have not heard the Gospel, and for the believers here who need to care about the lost and their own relationship with God."
