Conference encourages Guarani-speaking believers

About 300 people attended a conference in Paraguay last weekend for Guarani-speaking believers.

Three missionary couples and visitors joined 150 people from the local community and 130 people from seven tribal areas.

Accommodations were provided and one of the missionary couples did the cooking with the assistance of several Pai women. Pai men worked together to purchase beef for the meals and a Pai woman contributed a couple hundred pounds of the mandioca root -- a part of their daily diet.

The adults and teenagers met together several times for singing, special numbers, testimonies and Bible study, while separate meetings were held for the children.

A Paraguayan pastor was invited to speak during two of the teaching sessions for the adults. Two Pai Bible teachers and missionary Wayne Goddard also did some Bible teaching.

On Monday morning, all of the visitors returned to their homes.

"Since it was the first time we have ever hosted a conference of that magnitude, it was a learning experience, but it turned out very well," wrote Wes Goddard. "Next year, the people are planning another conference to be hosted by the tribal people at a different location, where two of our New Tribes Mission couples minister."

Please pray that the believers will stay encouraged from what they learned at the conference.

Pray too that God will guide the missionary team as they consider the future of the work and the need to ordain Pai men to take leadership in the church.

"We are also thinking about some different options for the future Rapid Bible Courses and how we can better equip Pai believers to plant churches in other locations where there is no missionary presence," Wes wrote.
