Different holidays and traditions

Rebecca Beachy is grateful for new experiences in Mexico.

Although Rebecca Beachy and her husband, Ryan, weren’t with their families on Thanksgiving doing things like eating turkey and shopping for Black Friday sales, they are very thankful to be experiencing some great holidays, foods and traditions that are native to Mexico.

How does avocado ice cream sound?  Or maybe you’d prefer mango or kiwi or rice as an ice cream flavor?

For a different holiday there is Kid’s Day on April 30 each year. And it’s a full-fledged holiday, Rebecca shares, a children’s version of Father’s Day or Mother’s Day.

Night travel often brings opportunities to witness the unusual and spine-tingling talents of fire-twirlers performing at various intersections along the way.

Rebecca’s personal favorite is Mexican tacos.  No, they’re not the tacos you’re thinking of.

These tacos have some exciting new options in the way of fillings.  “You can have cow tongue tacos, cactus tacos, pork rind tacos, intestine tacos and or even cow brain tacos. I haven’t actually had that one yet!” Rebecca writes.

Since 2009,Ryan and Rebecca have been in Mexico, where Ryan teaches at the NTM Bible Institute. They have learned to embrace many cultural differences that would have once seemed strange.

Rebecca says that, although Thanksgiving as a holiday is understandably not popular in Mexico, there is much in their daily lives and ministry that she and Ryan are thankful for. Opportunities for discipleship, sharing the Gospel and the joys of teaching  Firm Foundations chronological Bible lessons to children at their local church are blessings from God that make them very grateful.
