Different Offerings
Missionaries Nate and Elizabeth Claasen have just moved into a village in Papua New Guinea where they will begin learning the language and culture of the Pal people.
A few months ago, on their first survey trip to the tribal location, the Claasens and other missionaries were greeted by the Pals with offerings of tobacco, kola nuts, and money.
This was the Pals' way of telling the missionaries this is what they expected in return.
"Fortunately, a veteran missionary on the survey told the people that they could not accept the offering because that was not why they came," missionary Larry Tiedje wrote.
Instead, the missionary, along with the Claasens, made four promises to the Pal:
Please pray that Nate and Elizabeth will have an easy time adapting to living with the Pal people and that they will have wisdom and understanding while learning the Pal language and culture. Also pray that the Pal people will be open to hearing God's Word.

- They will translate the Bible into Pal.
- They will teach the Pal people the whole story of Scripture, from beginning to end.
