Dinangat teachers face resistance
Dinangat believers and missionaries in Papua New Guinea are teaching evangelistic Bible lessons in a neighboring village. This is the fourth week of the outreach and the students are beginning to ask questions.
"Although the majority seem to be right there with us, accepting Scripture as truth and excited about finally understanding things," wrote missionary Jeremiah Markley, "we are finding that the culture in this village is a bit different than the village where we live. Some of them seem to be a bit more resistant and suspicious of the teaching."
Because of the resistance to the teaching, the Dinangat Bible teachers and missionaries are taking adequate time to carefully explain each lesson. Baumo is one of the most resistant men. He talks as though he wants to come and listen to the lessons but has only come to one of the meetings. He is a polygamist and knows that his choices go against Biblical teaching. The missionaries have tried to assure him that this teaching is for everyone but he seems afraid to come.
The teachers continue to do a great job. Lucas, one of the youngest, is growing in the Lord by leaps and bounds.
"As one of the others was teaching about God Himself covering Adam and Eve with the skin of an animal," Jeremiah wrote, "Lucas leaned over to me and whispered,"’That’s just like what we’re learning in Romans now - how God Himself covers us with Christ’s righteousness because we could not do it ourselves!’"
Pray for the Dinangat Bible teachers who are making the trip each week to tell their neighbors about Jesus. Pray also that those who are listening to the Bible lessons will understand the teaching and will trust Christ as their Savior.
