Dinangats proclaim Jesus' birth

Dinangat believers in Papua New Guinea are proclaiming a Christmas message to anyone who will listen: "Jesus left his beautiful place and came to this earth for all of us."

Missionaries Gary and Esther Smith and family are delighted to know that the Dinangats now have a clear understanding of the reason for Christ's coming to earth.

As a family the Smiths got together and wrote "The 12 days of Papua New Guinea Christmas"

On the first day of Christmas my wantok (close friend) gave to me,

    • A bird in a buai tree (Buai is the number one thing to chew here.)

    • 2 turtle shells

    • 3 kakaruks (chickens)

    • 4 howling dogs

    • 5 squealing pigs (in this culture this is as valuable as 5 golden rings)

    • 6 gators a laying

    • 7 kau-kaus cooking (sweet potatoes -- staple food)

    • 8 mothers nursing

    • 9 kundus beating (Kundus are drums.)

    • 10 mu-mus steaming (a cooking method used at big feasts.)

    • 11 ladies planting

    • 12 men sing-singing (traditional dance that is very much like lords a leaping)

Praise God for the Dinangat believers who are joyously proclaiming Christ. Pray also for the Smith family as they minister to the Dinangats.
