Done with the new, on to the old

Bible translator Linda Krieg is working on putting Exodus into the Siawi language.

Bible translator Linda Krieg isn’t done even though the Siawi New Testament is complete.

Linda has returned to a Siawi village to help with a consultant check of Exodus portions and the book of Jonah. She and the Siawi translation team have done the preliminary work and are awaiting a visit from a missionary who is also experienced in translation, and in helping translators.

During her time in the tribe, Linda is also helping to tweak Revelation which had a few areas where the Siawis were having trouble following some of the text. “There is nothing like teaching from a book, to recognize where the weaker areas are, for clarity and meaning to come through,” wrote Linda.

Linda brought with her a new set of chronological teaching pictures for the Siawi Bible teachers to use as they teach chronologically through the Scriptures. The men were very pleased to have this new teaching aid.

The translation team is preparing the material that Linda needs to take home with her so she can work on them. The Siawi literature primers were last updated in 1991.

“Lots of new ideas about presenting the material are now available, and some for which we have really seen the need, so it will be good to get this done, once I ‘retire’ and have the time to work on them,” Linda wrote.

Pray for Linda as she prepares to return to the USA and begin work on updating the primers as well as other translation tasks. Pray also for the Siawi church leaders and Bible teachers to lead their flock and help them to grow.
