Eight epistles checked
Two Dom believers in Papua New Guinea, Kapia and Bapka, helped missionary Jack Douglas check the translation of eight New Testament epistles in the Dom language. Jack is experienced in translation and was there to help missionaries Jim and Judy Burdett with a final check of theses portions of the Dom Scriptures.
Kapia and Bapka listened while Jim read the Scriptures in Dom and they repeated the words to Jack in Melanesian Pidgin.
This painstaking check took six eight-hour days and the men were exhausted by the end. Jack evaluated the translation and offered his insights. Jack suggested that several passages, especially in 2 Corinthians, needed to be expressed more clearly in the Dom translation.
“Judy and I are encouraged by the progress of the translation,” Jim wrote. The final check is intended to bring out any flaws and improve the translation. Jim and Judy are excited to rework the passages so that the Dom people will be able to read the Scriptures with clarity and understanding.
Please pray for Jim and his team of Dom Christian men as they work to clarify those passages that need further work. Pray also for Jim and Judy as they prepare other books of the New Testament for printing.
