Elderly believers looking forward
After three long but "incredible" years among the Yembiyembi people in Papua New Guinea, missionaries Brooks and Nina Buser are returning to the USA for home assignment.
The Busers could not fly out of their jungle airstrip because of flooding so they took a motor canoe to an airstrip four hours away. The night before departing the village they sat down with two elderly believers -- Lucas and Prisca -- who have adopted the missionaries into their clan.
Lucas is fading physically and talks often about when he will see the face of the "Great One."
Mama Prisca spoke for her husband, saying, "Eldest son, tomorrow we set you in the canoe and you leave us behind for nine months. We don’t know if God has marked this time to close His fingers on your father and me, but we know this, if He does we have no fear. We are His children. We have crossed to His side. We will be with Him if it is our time.
"If you come back and you only see the grave and not our bodies, you can cry, but remember to not cry like an unbeliever. We will see you again, and we will see your face and you will see ours. We put you in the canoe with that thinking in our heads."
Please pray that more Yembiyembis will come to know the Savior and express the faith that Lucas and Prisca now have.
