Equipped to lead
Twenty-one Yembiyembi men recently graduated from a seven-week training course for deacons.
The men are not deacons yet, but they now know biblically what it means to be a deacon and will be able to train others in the future.
Each week the men had to memorize a specific passage of Scripture and for the final week they had to recite them all in one sitting in order to graduate.
“It was so neat to see these guys walking around the village all week long, some memorizing alone, some with wives, mothers, sisters, uncles, and brothers quizzing them to make sure they were up to speed to pass the test,” wrote Brooks Buser.
The oldest graduate, Lucas, was quizzed for three hours before he took the test.
“It was like he was sitting for medical boards or something,” Brooks wrote. “It was awesome.”
“You have seen the sweat that I have dropped to make these pieces of God’s Talk sit in my head,” Lucas said. “I may be one with white hair, but my thinking is in the clear and I am able to hold strong to God’s Talk.”
“My eyes are opened that this job is not about things of this ground, and I am not one of this ground,” said Brian, one of the younger men. “The piece of talk from Hebrews 11:13 taught me that I am not one of this ground. I am waiting for my real ground. I work and think for that time. That is where I will receive my prize. I wait easy patiently for that day.”
All of the believers attended a graduation party. They clapped, shouted, shook hands and lifted the graduates off the ground
Please pray for these men as they become leaders of the Yembiyembi church.
