'Every funeral wail a reminder of urgency'
Six deaths in three months cement the urgency of sharing God’s Word to the Biem people of Papua New Guinea.
Last week missionaries Wayne and Gail Chen, serving with Brandon and Rachel Buser and Thomas and Petra Depner, attended another funeral in the village.
"Every time we hear a funeral wail it’s a reminder of the urgency of our task," wrote Wayne. "As we witnessed another soul heading into a Christless eternity, our hearts ache with the finality of Heaven and Hell."
A Biem man came up to the team a few weeks back to talk to them. "When you guys first came here," he said, "you said you will bring God’s Talk to us. You have been here for more than a year now. When are you going to tell us about God’s Talk? I know that what others have taught is not the whole truth. When are you going to teach us the true foundation of God’s Talk?"
The team is working toward this goal, but there’s still work to do. All of the couples are learning the culture and language, so they can teach clearly.
In a month the Chens will have their first language evaluation, to see how their language skills are progressing and to show them where to go from here.
Please pray that all of the missionaries will learn the culture and language of the Biem people quickly and accurately, so they can share the true foundation with those around them.
