Exhausting Rewards

When school is out, missionary Wanda Hull doesn't get much of a break during her eight weeks of summer in Papua New Guinea.

As a teacher of missionaries' children, Wanda found herself saying goodbye to her kindergarten students and facing a long list of her own projects she wanted to accomplish before the next school year started.

For the first part of the break, Wanda planned a work project for some of the teenagers who were looking for something to do.

The tennis courts were growing black mold and were in need of paint, so they set to work cleaning and renovating.

Other projects on Wanda's list included helping some of her friends, who are leaving on home assignment, with house cleaning.

"If a person is living in center-owned housing, then every single thing in the house needs to be removed and put into storage," Wanda wrote. "The house also needs to be thoroughly cleaned. This includes the outside of the house, roof, flower gardens, as well as all walls, ceiling, windows, [and] cupboards. It is a huge job."

And when Wanda isn't helping with renovations and cleaning, she's tending to her own classroom.

"I am in the process of completely rearranging the furniture in the room," Wanda wrote. "The books are all off of the shelves and stacked around the room. It is going to take me at least part of another day to get things back in some semblance of an order."

Wanda is also working on her curriculum for the coming school year. She'll be using a new reading curriculum and needs to read the teacher's manual and become familiar with the new material.

"I am excited about using [the] curriculum, but also know that it will take a whole lot of extra work the first year that I teach through it," Wanda wrote. "I am planning to include some of the fun reading activities that I have done with the old curriculum."

The more Wanda can prepare ahead of time, the easier it will be for her to apply everything once school is in session. Please pray that she will accomplish all she needs to during these next eight weeks and that she will continue to be a blessing to her students and their families.
