Family faces barriers to Gospel

Culture and language are barriers that must be crossed before the Gospel can clearly be understood from one people group to the next. And it is visibly being realized in one family in Brazil.

Herman is a Guanano while his wife, Lucresia, is Kuripako. They don’t speak each others language. So when they have a heart to heart conversation they speak Portuguese.

Herman’s children are considered to be Guanano because their father is Guanano, but they don’t speak Guanano. They speak Kuripako and some Portuguese.

It is difficult for the family to participate in the life of the Guanano church that they attend with Herman. They understand very little of what is taught.

Herman does his best to explain the teaching in Portuguese but struggles translating the vocabulary and teaching concepts into another language. Consequently, he doesn’t believe that any of his family understands the Gospel yet.

In Lucresia’s village there is much religion, but it is performance based and she is resenting Herman’s teaching that their children were born with a "root of sin" in their hearts.

Please pray that God will give wisdom to Herman as he works through the culture and language barriers and teaches his family biblical concepts, and pray that the Holy Spirit will give the family a tender and ready heart to receive the Gospel.
