Floodgates of praise open

On Christmas Eve a couple of Dinangat women in Papua New Guinea shared how the Lord has brought them from darkness to light. Both were fairly nervous and were unable to finish all they had planned to say.

"I applaud these women for being the first to get up in front of everyone, disregarding what others might think of them, caring only that God’s name be lifted up," wrote missionary Jeremiah Markley.

On Christmas day, two men got up and gave thanks and praise to the Lord for everything He has done for them.

The next day, the floodgates opened and one after another began testifying to God’s power and grace.

"We finally had to quit because we’d been sitting in the hot sun for three hours," Jeremiah wrote.

On Sunday it was the same. Individuals were urged and empowered by the Spirit to stand and declare God’s greatness.

"Praise the Lord with us for this tremendous movement of the Spirit among His people," Jeremiah wrote. "We continue to be overwhelmed with gratitude as we have just been assured of the open door for the Word in a neighboring village."

Evangelistic Bible teaching will begin in that village Monday, Jan. 18.

"The believers are excited," Jeremiah wrote, "yet a bit overwhelmed at the job before them, as are we. The first stage of the teaching will last about 15 weeks, and requires a weekly three-hour hike over extremely rugged and steep trails.

"The teachers will be away from home and families for three days out of every week. Their challenges will be finding ways to keep up with their gardens at home, providing for their families while they’re away, and having enough food for themselves."

Please pray that the testimony of the believers will have a strong influence on those who will be hearing God’s Word and that many more Dinangats will believe in the Savior.
