From bamboo and vines to the living God

Hewa believers Yanis and Ken are doing "a phenomenal job" teaching verse by verse through Romans and the Hewa people in Papua New Guinea are soaking it in, missionary Jonathan Kopf reports.

While studying in the first chapter of Romans recently, Fato said, "Earlier we were so deceived. … Instead of worshipping the living God who can't die, we were worshipping the different things He had created, things that die and rot. We really thought the spirits of the different trees and bamboo and vines would be able to help us so we continually sacrificed pigs to them.

"We drew pictures of the different spirits on sheets of bark and hung them in our houses thinking that the spirits would see the pictures and be happy with us. We were so deceived to think that they could help us when all along their plan was destroy us. … They are powerless. Only God has power. We are so glad we have now received this message about God's power."

Please pray that more of the Hewa people will come to know the power of the Creator that will save them from the fear and worship of created things.
