Funeral provides opportunity
The funeral of a young Mengen believer in Papua New Guinea gave missionary Dave Wright a great opportunity to share with the villagers concerning the source of death.
Nine-year-old Marion had placed her faith in Christ, which is a source of comfort to her parents, Teli and Kariang.
Teli, in his grief following Marion’s death, had accused Kariang of causing Marion’s death. But as Christ comforted him and worked in his life, he has joined with his wife in refusing to take part in the traditional ceremonies involving spirit worship. They are being strongly pressured by their family to take part in these rituals.
Missionary Dave Wright reported concerning the funeral, "At Teli and Kariang’s request, I prepared a 15-minute lesson on the source of death and that the death of Marian wasn’t the fault of Teli and Kariang."
Teli read through Dave’s notes before he shared it with the villagers. He then had Dave share his message with those in the village before going to the grave site.
"It was an opportunity to share that Marian’s death is an illustration of what awaits us all and where our spirits go at death. Please pray that it will bear fruit," wrote Dave.
Pray that Marion’s grandparents and other family members will be impacted by her death and will desire to hear God’s Word and come to know Christ as Savior. Pray too that God will continue to comfort Teli and Kariang and their seven children and that they will be a godly example to the lost.
