Gaining strength through struggles
"If God is going to help, He does it right away. If He doesn’t, then you have to find another answer."
Kwaelom was frustrated that God hadn’t healed his daughter and decided, along with the urging of many Siawis, that the only help was to go back to the old ways.
Surely someone was angry with Kofele and had worked black magic on the young woman, causing her to be totally incapacitated for so long. The only help for that was to find out who had worked the black magic and get him to back off.
By nature -- the old nature -- Kwaelom is a fearful man. He had stood strong in the Lord for so long but fear had now won the battle. He called for a village meeting to try to find out who was making his daughter sick.
This Siawi Bible teacher was now sending a message that the old ways could be mixed with the Word of God.
A week ago -- more than a month since that meeting -- Kwaelom stood before the church family and confessed that he had been following his old thinking, not the new thinking that God had given him.
"I don’t want to hear later that someone has gone back to the old ways because he saw me do it," Kwaelom exhorted the believers. "I don’t want to be the person who causes them to do that, by my bad example."
God has used Kwaelom’s struggles to strengthen the Siawi church. Some men have confessed their fault in not supporting Kwaelom during his time of need. And some confessed that they couldn’t see a problem with what Kwaelom had done.
Please pray for Kwaelom and the Siawi church in Papua New Guinea as they continue to learn how to walk by faith in God’s Word.
