Gili on pins and needles

Gili, an Akolet man in Papua New Guinea, is getting more excited by the day as he works with missionary Adam Martin to prepare Bible lessons for the teaching that will soon begin among the Akolets.

Adam has been working relentlessly to write Bible lessons and he then teaches them to Gili to make sure they communicate well.

Several weeks ago, Gili heard about a Rescuer that God would send to deliver people from the power of Satan, sin and death. After that lesson, he asked Adam, "So, who is this Rescuer? Has He come yet? Did He come when Adam and Eve were still alive?"

Gili waits eagerly each day to learn more about this Rescuer.

Last week, Adam’s wife, Julie, was working with Gili and his wife, Waklo, translating Scripture for the Bible lessons. The verses for the day were Old Testament prophecies about Christ.

Later, Adam talked with Gili. "I heard about the verses you worked on today. What did you think about them?"

"More talk is out in the light now," Gili said. "Before, all I knew was that a Rescuer would come. But now I know that he will come as a human, that he will be named ’God is with us,’ that we humans will be very bad to Him and that when He dies, God won’t let His body rot. Yes, I know a little bit more now. More talk is out in the light."

"I’ve never seen or heard of a man more on pins and needles to hear the truth than Gili is," Julie wrote. "Praise God for the work He’s doing here! Please pray for clarity for Bible lesson writing and translation.

"Please also pray for God to be stirring people’s hearts so that they will want to come to the Bible teaching when it begins."
