Hope grows among Doms
The Dom people of Papua New Guinea had no word for hope in their language.
Their lives were filled with uncertainty, toil and pain, and their biggest fear was death. They had no knowledge of life after death.
Then in 1982 missionaries Jim and Judy Burdett came to bring them the message of hope and eternal life. After learning the Dom culture and language they were able to teach through the Bible from Creation to Christ so that the people could clearly understand the Gospel message.
Now Kapia, Gena, Phillip, Bapka and their families have trusted Christ as their Savior as have several other Doms. Understanding the Gospel and how God promised a Redeemer from the very beginning of the Bible has given the Dom people hope.
Gena works with Jim to help translate the Bible into the Dom language. Jim is hoping that within five years the Dom New Testament will be finished.
Jim and Judy are currently on home assignment and Jim is preparing the Gospel of Matthew for translation and is half-way through the preparations for Revelation. When the Burdetts return from home assignment, Jim and Gena will work on the final translations of 1 and 2 Peter, Jude, 1, 2 and 3 John, Philemon and Revelation.
Pray that the Doms will embrace the hope of eternal life and more will place their trust in Christ.
