'I am a child of God'
Many Uriay people in Papua New Guinea are experiencing the wonders of new birth this week and are excited to tell others about it.
The testimonies of tribal believers tasting the joy of salvation for the first time shine with the purity and simplicity of their new understanding. For many this is the first time they have heard and understood the Gospel message.
"It’s because of His love for us and His mercy that He was willing to die on the cross. He died so I don’t have to go to hell," said Imi, a close friend and tribal sister of missionary Lisa Kappeler,
Dakruma, another friend and new believer, told missionaries, "I am a child of God. Jesus is my punishment-bearing man! His blood poured out so that I don’t have to get the punishment for my sins!"
Noel played the role of Jesus on the cross when Elias Struik was teaching that lesson. Lisa later asked him, "What were you thinking as you hung there on the cross?"
"I almost cried. Before you all started this teaching, I was in Satan’s canoe," Noel said, "I said bad things about other people, was mad, (etc.) and as I hung there, I kept thinking about how Christ bore all this pain and punishment for my sins. He died and His blood was poured out to cover my sins. I am thinking with only one thinking about that talk so I am in God’s canoe now."
Aendru, Lisa’s translation co-worker, is already asking God to help him change. He told the missionaries, "I’m asking Him to change my mouth."
Pray for the Uriay believers as they begin to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Lord. Pray also for the missionaries who are beginning to disciple the new believers.
