James teaches Siawi believer

Okweb, a Siawi man in Papua New Guinea, is beginning to get a clearer picture about prayer as he works with missionary Linda Krieg to check the translation of the book of James.

For the past few years some Siawis have been teaching that things will magically appear through prayer.

"If I pray for a bush knife, will it just appear right beside me?" Okweb asked Linda after hearing a couple of verses on prayer last week.

Linda told Okweb to keep listening because James had a lot more to say about prayer.

As Okweb listened "there was no doubt [God's Word] was communicating," wrote Linda. "It was communicating so well that Okweb had a hard time listening to the whole paragraph. As he heard things that he wanted to stop and think about he'd tell me, 'Wait, I didn't hear the last part of that well. I was still thinking about the first part because it was really convicting me.'"

While working through James, Okweb heard more about praying with the right motives, praying in God's will and how sin hinders prayer.

Okweb now has a lot more to think about regarding prayer. Please pray that he and his fellow Siawis will understand more about communicating with God.
