Literacy and baptism highlight Mengens' schedule

Bruce, a Mengen man in Papua New Guinea, was breaking into missionaries’ homes and stealing whatever he could find. Then he heard evangelistic Bible lessons and Jesus came into his life.

"It is amazing to see him transformed into a man of God, teaching his three young children spiritual truths and demonstrating love and care to his wife," wrote missionary Rebecca Preheim.

Next week Bruce, Edward and Alex will become the first Mengen literacy school teachers in their village and they are beginning the journey to become church leaders. Pray for these three men as they step into leadership roles in the church and the community.

Recently missionary Dave Wright has been teaching the believers about baptism. Many were confused about the purpose of baptism but as they began to understand they became eager to take this stand before their friends and family. Dave has announced that there will be a baptismal service in two weeks.

"Please pray that the 40 or so Mengen believers would be bold and brave and ready to take this important step. For many this will bring persecution and criticism from their unsaved friends and relatives," wrote Rebecca.
