Making progress on Dom New Testament
Missionary Jim Burdett is making progress on the first draft of the New Testament for the Dom people of Papua New Guinea.
Later, Jim will work with co-worker Gena for comprehension and accuracy on what was worked on in this first stage.
"This [first] drafting process will greatly accelerate the final translation of the New Testament in the Dom language when we eventually return to the field," Judy Burdett wrote. "Our dream, Lord willing, is to have the Dom New Testament finished within the next five years."
Jim and Judy are currently in New York, but are still in touch with what is going on with the Doms. They were encouraged to hear about the success of a women's three-day conference. Fifty-six women from different tribal churches in the region attended the conference.
"It went very well and showed them that they can manage things like this without their missionaries," Judy wrote.
The Dom believers, however, are struggling with maintaining unity. They are also dealing with discontentment and sin.
"Gena still faithfully teaches and tries to minister to his people," Judy wrote. "We can only hope and pray that God's Word … will have had an impact on Dom Christians. Please pray for Gena and all the Dom believers that they may finally cast off the sins and old habits that so easily beset them and run the race with all their hearts."
