Medical help opens doors

On Saturday, six months of teaching among a group of Higaunon people in the Philippines will reach a climax when they hear about Christ’s resurrection and ascension.

This group began meeting after missionaries helped a man get medical attention following a motorcycle accident.

Junjun, the son of a former village captain, was taken to the hospital with a badly broken leg. Doctors could not save the leg and it had to be amputated. However, Junjun’s father, Fernando, was so grateful for the missionaries’ help that he gathered his family and relatives and asked the missionaries to teach them God’s Word.

During the teaching, Fernando became sick and nearly died. But again, with the missionaries’ help he recovered to continue hearing evangelistic Bible lessons.

"Please pray that many in this group will trust in the Savior," wrote missionaries Steve and Ros Baird. "We can see that God is at work and some of the family are softening their hearts toward Him."

The family has been dealing with many issues. Among them is the recent murder of Junjun’s uncle, who replaced Junjun’s father as village captain.
