Mengens to hear again

Among the Mengen people In Papua New Guinea, four people have stepped forward to help with translations and four have become lesson checkers.

Missionary Dave Wright is going crazy, but in a very good way.

"I am so pleased with how God is undertaking and empowering His Word in the lives of those that are listening right now," Dave wrote.

Dave is busy preparing to finally teach Bible lessons this month.

"I can't believe that we are finally here and on the threshold of publicly proclaiming God's Word [among] the Mengen people again," Dave wrote.

The Mengens first heard the Gospel in 2005 and as a result, some became believers. Dave is encouraged that more people are showing an interest in the lessons and that four other Mengens stepped up to help with lesson checks.

"They are all on track and grasping the main themes of who God is in His nature and character, their sin and their need for the redeemer," Dave wrote. "Right now, they're our biggest promoters in encouraging folks to come."

Although Dave is seeing a lot of Mengens opening up to God's Truth, there are still unbelievers who are holding on to their traditions.

A scare is going around the villages that a disaster will hit in 2010 and Mengens believe that Dave and his family will leave because of it.

"One of our elders was over the other day asking about it and I said that we weren't leaving until 2011," Dave wrote. "There was only one way to not worry about disasters and that was to come to the teaching of God's Word … I shared that if we were at peace with God then it wouldn't matter if the disaster came in 2011, 12, or 13 because there is no worry about death."

Please pray that the Mengens will choose to come to the teachings to find out why it is not necessary to worry about this potential disaster.
