Missionaries bend to meet need

Missionary Josh Moffit found that living in a remote village in the Philippines sometimes complicates simple things.

He tore his ACL (knee ligament) playing basketball and the adventure began. He had to drive a few hours from the village to the nearest airstrip on the island, catch a plane to another island and finally visit a surgeon who could repair the ligament.

Meanwhile his wife, Belinda, was back in the tribe trying to care for the needs of the children. She was home schooling their two girls and their 2-year-old was busy being two.

Soon she was ready to make the trip to join her husband on the next island. But there was a significant difference.

"She was traveling with the three children and their teenaged teacher assistant plus all the schooling materials as they had to stay for one month following surgery," Lynne Strange wrote.

When Belinda arrived she discovered that in the hospital it is necessary to have someone stay with a patient to find and buy needed medicine, attend to personal needs and go to each office and pay for services before surgery.

That's when missionaries Chris and Lynne Strange went into action. "We were asked," wrote Lynne, "to come up with them to be Lola and Lolo -- grandmother and grandfather -- to the kids while the Mom takes on care of the Dad. As we were working through this time out of our own tribal village, … God made it real clear that this is where we should be at this time -- helping our brothers and sisters in need. That is a no brainer in my book, especially easy this time as we dearly love these little cuties (including Mom and Dad). So our ministry for the next week is helping this family through the surgery and a bit of rehab, then heading back to our island and into our village."

Josh's surgery was successful and he and his family are in the guest home while he recovers. Chris and Lynne were delighted to be a help to their missionary family.

Pray that Josh will recuperate and soon be able to return to his ministry.
