Missionaries give glimpse of USA
Last weekend representatives of several different nations gathered to celebrate the Festival of Nations in Mexico. Immigration officials ask missionaries John and Sharon Steadman each year to host a booth that gives festival-goers a glimpse of USA culture and history.
John demonstrated traditional grilled cheese sandwiches. "One visitor had never seen such a thing," wrote Sharon, "Without waiting to be served, he grabbed a sandwich (untoasted) and ate it! … (John doesn't think he was very impressed.)"
The Festival is always in December, a demonstration of the global nature of Christmas.
"If we can see past the glitz and materialism of these events," wrote Sharon, "we might see how connected they really are. When Christ came as a baby … God's plan was to ransom people to Himself from every tribe, tongue and nation through the sacrifice of His Son."
"Pray for the indigenous people of Mexico, that they would hear, understand and respond to our heavenly Father's invitation to His own great Festival of Nations."
