Missionaries welcomed home

The Manjui church of Paraguay is sending out their own missionaries, marking a happy yet somber time for missionaries Jamie and Char Hunt as they packed their belongings and prepared to move on to a new ministry.

Isnei and Zitiila’, Manjui believers, recently returned home from a village 4 to 5 hours away where they lived for a year. They taught through the evangelistic Bible lessons in that village. Isnei believes that eight people they’ve been teaching now understand their need for the Savior, and they’ve asked Isnei and Zitiila’ to continue shepherding them.

The Manjui church recently welcomed their missionaries home enthusiastically. Isnei and Zitiila’ are taking this time to rest and be encouraged by their home church as they and the rest of the Manjui believers consider their responsibility to the new believers.

And as the Manjui believers take on more and new responsibilities, one New Tribes missionary family is phasing out of the ministry there and beginning a new one.

Jamie and Char worked to translate Scripture for the Manjuis. “Jamie has enjoyed translation more than any other job or ministry he has ever had,” wrote Char.

“We count it all joy to have served the Manjui church these last 12 years,” she wrote. “What a privilege to have had a small part in bringing this baby church to maturity.”

The Manjui people now have 175 books for reading and practicing literacy, along with 19 books of the New Testament and two books of the Old Testament. The newest to join the library is 1 Corinthians.

Although Jamie and Char’s part in the Manjui work is done, there is still ongoing work among the Manjuis. Seven books of the New Testament remain to be translated, which is being done by missionaries Gordon and Nancy Hunt, and missionaries Jeff and Stacy Hunt are staying on to work with the Manjui believers on discipleship and outreach.

Jamie and Char Hunt are looking forward to the next phase of their ministry, living and serving among the Nivacle people, learning a new culture and language. Please pray for them as they adapt to a new setting, and pray that the Manjui believers will continue to grow.
