MP3 player carries teaching
An Akolet village 20-minutes walk away from where missionaries are teaching evangelistic Bible lessons is now hearing the teaching on an MP3 player.
The two villages don’t interact very much so the people from the second village had not been attending the teaching even though they aren’t that far away. But the village chief, Martin, had been hearing about the lessons and asked to hear them.
Sukek, the man who was put in charge of the MP3 player, said the player "has to stay with me, but I can go with it to the other village and you can all listen to it while I’m there."
The missionaries were unaware of the request but found out last week that Sukek has spent so much time with the people of the second village that they have listened to 25 hours of teaching. Sukek told the missionaries that the people like the teaching and can’t wait until the next lessons are available.
It was encouraging news for the missionary team since attendance over the past few weeks has fluctuated. Ten people who were coming faithfully and seemed eager for Bible teaching have left the area.
"We know God is not surprised by this and He will work in this situation in the best way possible, but it has been discouraging to see people who we thought were committed, running off after jobs … the lure of town, or the pull of relatives in other villages," wrote Adam and Julie Martin.
Please pray that those who are hearing the lessons will understand them completely, place their faith in Christ and have a strong witness in the community. An Akolet village is getting the opportunity to hear Bible lessons.
