Mwinikas decide on lessons
A gathering of religious, government and clan leaders met last week with missionaries to make decisions about the start of evangelistic Bible teaching among the Mwinika people of Mozambique.
The teaching will be held in the village near missionary Phil and Elin Henderson’s home. The focus of the teaching will be four nearby communities with 1,500 people.
The leaders decided that Bible lessons will be held four times each week, Monday through Thursday, with the possibility of extending it to five days. The Hendersons estimate that teaching will take more than four months to complete.
The actual starting date for the teaching is yet to be decided, depending on the progress of translation work and lesson preparations.
A meeting was also held to discuss teaching the Mwinikas to read and write. Community leaders want to talk about it further, but their current thought is to make the Bible teaching the priority and follow that with a literacy program.
"Overall we are very happy with how these meetings went," the Hendersons wrote. "We ask that you keep praying for us as we prepare to start teaching … that we will be able to get the lessons and translation ready soon and that the community will be excited to come and hear the teaching."
